Ups and Downs
Ups1. I'm off work for a couple of weeks, just because I had so much time owing me that I needed to take some time off before I lose it. Not that I'm doing anything constructive. I can lose half a day mooching around in Youtube and flickr very easily indeed.
2. All my overtime payments came through. Just as well really cos I'm gonna need it.
3. My wife is still in her new job despite thinking it's too much for her. She tried to give in her notice last week, because she thinks there's too much new stuff to learn and she's so anxious to clear the backlog that the previous guy left behind, but her boss says this is precisely why she WON'T accept her resignation and she's not to worry about catching up. They are SO laid back at that company as to be almost comatose.
Downs:
1. Looks like my procurement manager isn't going to be replaced so I'm going to be permanently understaffed. Cracks are already beginning to show in the team as they try to cover the work as well as all the usual stuff like other people on leave or sick.
2. My central heating system needs to be replaced. Well, not the whole system, just the boiler. It's been iffy for months, and every year when they gas man comes to service it he says it's well overdue for replacement. It was serviced in April and I agreed with him that it was on its last legs, but the estimate for replacing it was £4k, which I don't happen to have lying around and I was reluctant to take on a loan to cover the cost.
However, a couple of days ago it stopped heating water altogether, although it does still heat the radiators. I called out the gas man again. He poked around for a bit and said the coil in my cylinder is blocked up and it's not worth trying to fix, so it looks like I have no choice but to get it replaced.
As strange luck would have it, I am likely to receive a windfall next month which will just about cover the cost. I rather hoped to use that money for something else, but Lady Luck has shat in my hat once again. I suppose I should be grateful that I don't need arrange finance after all.

Ooh. I hope your wife sticks it out. She'll get used to it eventually.
