'er indoors - back to work

My wife has finally managed to find a new job.

It all happened very suddenly. She got a call from an agency last week saying they had a vacancy for a legal cashier a couple of miles away from us and could they send her CV. She knows the area, it's in Moss Side where all the drug runners and criminal gangs operate but this place is on one of the main routes into Manchester, but said they were offereing up to £17k which is the kind of money she was looking for.

They then contacted her and asked if she could go to an interview on Fiday morning, but she had already agreed to stay in to take delivery of some furniture for our neighbours, so they said they'd try to organise an interview for Friday afternoon.

Then they rang again and asked if she could go straight away. As luck would have it, I was at home, having been to Liverpool in torrential rain in the morning and had decided to work from home in the afternoon, so I was able to take her there for 4pm.

She was there for an hour and ended up offering her £18k, with 20 days leave and extra time off at Christmas, plus a £50 birthday present, which all staff get from the company, rather than having a collection and they wanted her to start on Monday.

The company deals with criminal cases (no surprise there) and although she was used to dealing mostly with conveyancing she's still quite capable of doing they job, she just needs to brush up on a few things.

So, she started on Monday and said the accounts are in a mess. Whoever was doing it before appears to have left a while ago and there are piles of correspondence to clear, lots of cheques to bank and bills to be processed. But she revels in this kind of thing, really, so if it doesn't drive her bonkers I think she'll probably have the place running like clockwork in a couple of months.

One other plus point is that they have another office only ten minutes walk from where we live, and she mentioned at the interview that it would be easier for her if her office was based there. It happens that they do have a spare office there, so may consider moving her if everything works out OK.
